An impregnating or potting composition for electrical apparatus consists of a soft plastic gel of a normally solid polyethylene in a normally viscous liquid polyisobutylene; preferably the compositions consist of 5 to 90 per cent of a normally solid polyethylene having a molecular weight of between 4000 and 15,000, and the remainder, or substantially the whole of the remainder, of a viscous normally liquid polyisobutylene having a molecular weight of between 2000 and 7000. The compositions may also contain anti-oxidants such as polymerized trimethyl dihydroquinoline. |
