The transport system (1) has a multi-cable rail system (17) and multiple driverless transport trolleys (11), which are movable on the rail system by a drive device and are equipped with a communication device. A central control device is provided for supplying the location information to each transport trolley. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for transporting metal coils, particularly hot coils; and (2) a transport trolley with a heat shield.
