1,056,988. Precipitating nickel and/or cobalt. REPUBLIC STEEL CORPORATION. Aug.25, 1965 [Nov. 25, 1964], No.36581/65. Heading C7D. A process for the recovery of nickel and/or cobalt from solutions thereof comprises adding metallic iron to the solution which is at a temperature of 100‹ to 300‹C. The salts used may be Cl' SO 4 " or NO 3 ' and salts of Fe, Mn, Cr, Mg and Al may be present in the solution. It is stated that Ni is preferentially deposited from acidic solutions containing both Ni and Co. It is preferred to use at least 0À05 up to 3À5 times the stoichiometric amount of iron calculated on the amount of nickel in the solution. In order to expedite the reaction sulphur may be added along with the iron giving a product which contains Co and/or Ni sulphides. |
