Polymeric xanthate derivatives.. N-1. Prepared by nucleophilic addition or replacement reactions between an electrophilic ractant and a polymeric alcohol xanthate which has been dealkalised by ion exchange to pH 13 and has preferably been deionised. Such dealkalisation methods are described in British Patent 981,362. The polymeric xanthates include those of cellulose, amylose, dextran, starch, sugar, polyvinyl alcohol and polyallyl alcohol. The xanthates have improved stability, and can be used as dry powders or as solutions. The addition or replacement reactions may be carried out on a substrate, such as paper or a textile. |
