[Also in Division H2] In a disconnecting switch arrangement for a high-voltage power transformer (not shown), the contacts 3, 4 of an isolating switch, in series with the primary winding of the transformer, are opened when an explosive charge 6<SP>1</SP> is fired by pulse generating means in circuit with a short Circuit path completed to earth by a shortcircuiting switch 15, 16, which may be operated by an explosive charge 14. The moving contact 3 of the isolating switch is operated by a piston 2 on which the gases evolved by the charge 6 act. The piston carries a buffer 9 which enters an aperture 10 to brake the opening movement of the moving contact. The pulse generator may comprise a current transformer 8 with its primary winding in the shortcircuit path and its secondary winding connected to the detonator of the explosive charge 6<SP>1</SP>. To cause the opening of the isolator to occur in the interval in which the supply is interrupted by the operation of a main auto-reclosing circuit breaker, the detonator of the charge 6<SP>1</SP> may be controlled by a relay which when energized by the transformer 8 opens contacts to permit a capacitor to be charged from the transformer. When the short-circuit current ceases, the relay releases and closes its contacts to permit the capacitor to discharge through the detonator, Fig. 3 (not shown). |
