A retrofit apparatus 106 for a bed 100 comprises a footboard 108 which houses a media device 114. The apparatus also comprises a retrofit engagement arrangement 200 coupled to the footboard 108 for maintaining the footboard at the foot of the bed. The media device 114 is preferably a television, and the footboard 108 has means for moving the television between a concealed, stowed position and a deployed, viewing position, such that the apparatus 106 allows a normal bed to function as a television bed. The engagement arrangement preferably includes a pair of side arms 200 extending from the footboard 108. The arms may fasten at their free ends to a wall (not shown), or a cross member (234, fig. 16) may extend between the free ends of the arms, with the bed being located in the space defined by the footboard, arms, and cross member or wall. The side arms 200 may be adjustable in length, and may define a channel or conduit for routing cables to the footboard. An aperture (203, fig. 3) may be provided in one side arm 200 for receiving a switching device (not shown) which controls deployments and stowage of the television 114.
