A connector 20 for joining a tower 104 to a base structure. The connector has a lower ring portion 31 affixed to the base and an upper collar portion 32 affixed to the tower. Clamping means 40 clamp the ring and collar together. The ring has a seat 37 and the collar has an abutment 35 which are in load bearing contact 36, 38. The contact surface preferably forms a ball and socket joint, more preferably being formed by an annulus of a spherical surface. This permits tilt adjustment of the ring relative to the collar prior to clamping to allow tower alignment. The clamping means preferably comprise dogs driven in a radial direction by corresponding dogs moveable in an axial direction of the tower. Wherein each dog pair preferably has oppositely inclined contacting surfaces which transfers the movement of the axial dog to the radial dog (Figure 5). The tower may support a wind turbine |
