In a universal joint between two shaft ends or between a housing and a hub of a motor vehicle plate clutch torsional vibration damper, wherein a number of columnar rubber blocks 2 are connected together to form a polygonal ring, the alternate corners of which are respectively connected or connectible to driving and driven elements, the axes of any two adjacent blocks, when projected on a plane parallel to the coupling axis, intersect at an angle less than 180 degrees, such that, on assembly, relative movement of said alternate corners axially of the coupling, until the block axes lie in a common plane, compressively prestresses the blocks. In the horizontal vibration damper shown, the adjacent ends of the blocks at ring alternate corners are vulcanized respectively to arms 4 of a spider 1 and to clamping sockets 3. In a shaft coupling clamping sockets are provided at all of the ring corners. |
