[Also in Division C3] A laminating varnish is obtained by mixing or heating an aminotriazine-aldehyde condensate derived from 1À2-4 moles of aldehyde per mole of triazine, with 0À1-0À8 moles per mole of triazine of an acrylic or methacrylic acid ester having at least one hydroxy group, or a polymer or copolymer thereof of molecular weight below 50,000. In the examples methylolated melamine or benzoguanamine is condensed or mixed with hydroxyethyl acrylate or polymerized glycerol methacrylate or a copolymer of hydroxypropyl methacrylate and diallylmelamine. Solutions of the products are used to impregnate pattern papers which are then laminated on to a 7-ply phenolic resin/paper laminate or plywood. |
