A method of cooling an extruded material includes the material passing through a layer of liquid refrigerant during its movement in a cooling bath, and destruction of the heated liquid refrigerant layer which is formed at the surface of extruded material in at least one zone along the length. Destruction of the heated refrigerant layer is performed by bubbles or gas jets passed through the liquid refrigerant layer.
