The arrangement (1) has an energy storage (2) from which a fluid medium (5) is conveyed through a flow machine into an energy sink (3) by conversion of potential energy into electrical energy in a turbine operation (TB). An auxiliary flow machine (41) i.e. pump, is arranged in series with a main flow machine (4) in a flow line (400). A switching part (6) is provided, so that the fluid medium is delivered through the main flow machine and the auxiliary flow machine in a pumping operation (PB) and the fluid medium is delivered through the main flow machine in the turbine operation. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a pump storage arrangement.
