Moulded catalyst bodies are made from a thermostable material by introducing small amounts of a thermally stable support suspension which may or may not be charged with a catalyst in insoluble form, into a liquid where it is heated to a temperature higher than the boiling point of the suspension at the working pressure, with the suspension agent and the heating liquid being difficult to mix under the reigning conditions. Subsequently the bodies formed are separated from the liquid, dried if necessary and subjected to final annealing. Spec. annealing is carried out at a temp. of at least 600 degrees C. Pref. as a heating liquid an aqueous suspension and a hydrocarbon compound are used for a heating liquid. This method precludes the disadvantages of using powdered catalysts which tend to cause pressure drops, channel forming or dust problems, or in the case of the material form suggested in Belgian Patent 713,656, uneven distribution of the catalyst.
|
