PURPOSE: A method for automatically categorizing patent documents using a frequency item list and association rules is provided to automatize processes of manually categorizing IPCs of applied patent documents, thereby reducing manpower. CONSTITUTION: Transactions of patent documents are configured by extracting content included in an identification item from mother group patent documents whose class is determined according to an IPC(International Patent Classification). A keyword is extracted from content included in the transactions through a morpheme analyzer(S202). A frequency item list and association rules about the class are generated from the keyword(S206). The frequency item list and the association rules are applied to categorized patent documents to classify the class(S208).
