PURPOSE: A sealing device for sealing a pouch type secondary battery is provided to improve sealability and reliability of a secondary battery, and to prevent the damage of a pouch type battery case. CONSTITUTION: A sealing device(30) for sealing a pouch type secondary battery comprises an upper and a lower sealing blocks(31,32). In at least one of the upper and the lower sealing blocks, grooves(31a,32a) are formed comprising diagonally stepped portion at location corresponding with an electrode tab of a pouch type secondary battery. The width of the grooves including the diagonally stepped portion is wider by 0.1-10% than the width of the electrode tab. The grooves including the diagonally stepped portion are formed on the top of the top sealing block and the bottom sealing block at the same time.
