PURPOSE: A method for preparing a polyester resin composition is provided to enable the production of an aqueous polyester resin with desired properties and little content of organic solvents. CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing a polyester resin composition comprises the steps of: (i) performing the maleinization of 1 equivalent of cardanol with about 0.8~1.2 of equivalent maleic anhydride at 180~220 °C to prepare a cardanol derivative; (ii) polymerizing cardanol derivatives, polyhydric alcohols, and polyfunctional acids to prepare a polyester resin; (iii) controlling an acid value of the manufactured polyester resin to 10~100 mgKOH/g; and (iv) adding an amine compound and neutralizing and solubilizing the resultant.
