PURPOSE: A device for controlling write velocity in an optical disc drive and a method thereof are provided to adjust write speed of a CLV(Constant Linear Velocity) mode within an allowable range by a zigzag method, thereby preventing saturation of frequencies of EMIs by firmware. CONSTITUTION: When a CLV mode is set, a control unit stores data record start time or a data record start location(S11,S12). The control unit records data of a host on an optical disk. If frequencies of EMI(Electromagnetic Interference)s are almost saturated, the control unit adjusts a linear record speed by selecting a record speed change profile(S14~S16).
