[Also in Division G3] In a multi-phase system producing power from a D.C. supply through inverters, for each phase two waves are generated which are variably phase displaced by equal and opposite amounts to a reference phase angle. For each phase, a pair of inverters are employed connected to a common oscillator 1 and each comprising a monostable multivibrator 2, a Schmitt trigger circuit 3, a flipflop circuit 4 and firing circuits, e.g. 7, 8, the latter triggering controllable rectifiers in a unit, e.g. 5 supplying energy to a transformer winding 143 connected serially with another winding 144, the output being taken from terminals 150, 151. The load voltage is detected and compared with a reference in a differential amplifier 14 the output of which angularly displaces in the multivibrators 2 the oscillator output by equal and opposite amounts so that the phase angles of the voltages relative to one another are maintained equal, hence voltage variation with asymmetric loading is also compensated. The system may be substituted for the arrangement disclosed in Specification 1,095,029 for providing a "no break" supply system. A common oscillator may feed all the pairs of inverters (Fig. 3, not shown) and be tied to a main supply (20) through a frequency multiplier (28), which oscillator is free running should the main supply dissappear. The load 15 is normally started from the mains and subsequently changed to the inverters through a switch 16. The arrangement may supply a variable speed motor by arranging for the reference to have a variable frequency.</p> |
