<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable cursor control or function selection operation suitable to a displayed screen situation without changing an input device. <P>SOLUTION: A menu screen identification number, a menu screen arrangement coordinate, and information recorded in a cursor control system are read from a menu screen arrangement information recording table and displayed on a monitor. A processing operation for determining an optimal cursor control system is executed on the basis of the read information. If, as a result of determination, a free cursor mode is determined as the optimal cursor control system, free cursor control is executed so as to respond to action information, such as a moving direction and a moving amount when a remote control main body is moved, and such as operation information on an operating key.
