<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a modified cross section monofilament which has excellent durability and impact absorption property and is suitable for obtaining a string for a racket at a low cost, and a string for racket. <P>SOLUTION: The monofilament has a modified cross section shape comprising a center component including a fiber axis and at least four protruding parts formed on the peripheral edge of the center component. In the modified cross section monofilament, the length (A) of a contact boundary between the center component and the protruding parts and the maximum diameter (B) of the protruding parts satisfy relation of an equation A/B≤0.6.
