<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a vinyl acetal resin which can efficiently manufacture a vinyl acetal resin having a high degree of acetalization in a short time with the coloring of a resin suppressed by reacting a vinyl alcohol resin or a vinyl acetate resin with aldehyde even without using an acid catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing a vinyl acetal resin, a vinyl alcohol resin or a vinyl acetate resin and aldehyde are brought into acetalization reaction in a high temperature-high pressure fluid at 100 to 400°C under 0.5 to 100 MPa.
