The device has impact energy-absorbing deformation element (2) moved between a bumper and a frame (100) in the working position. A plastically deformable material portion in the deformation element is plastically deformed when force acts on impulse breakdown of impact energy. An adjusting portion (5) is provided to adjust the degree of plastic deformation of the material section (21) of the deformation element. A control regulating device is provided for controlling the adjusting portion. An independent claim is included for frame of vehicle.
