The valve (9) has a valve housing (10) comprising an outlet (14) controlled by a control piston (11) under adjustment of a resetting geometry. The piston is displaceably guided against force of a valve spring (12) into the housing. The outlet is connected with a pump workspace (6) of a high pressure pump (4), and the resetting geometry is designed such that a small resetting cross-section is released during start of opening of the valve. The resetting cross-section has a triangular-shape whose tip is arranged at one side of the valve. An independent claim is also included for a method for adjustment of resetting amount of an overflow valve for a fuel injection system of a combustion engine.
