<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process and a catalyst for partial oxidation, which enable to carry out a partial oxidation reaction of an aromatic compound with sufficiently high yield and selectivity, useful in the production of an aromatic hydroxide such as phenol, and to provide a method for producing phenol using the process and the catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: The aromatic hydroxide is produced by irradiating an aromatic compound with radiation in the presence of a catalyst containing a photocatalyst or a noble metal or a noble metal oxide, water and an oxidizing agent to partially oxidize the aromatic compound. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
