<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a deterioration in image quality of a generated photoacoustic image, even when variations in photoirradiation timing occur in photoacoustic diagnostic imaging equipment. <P>SOLUTION: An ultrasonic image construction means 18 generates an ultrasonic image. A first photoacoustic image construction means 17 generates a photoacoustic image on the basis of a photoacoustic signal generated by light applied to a subject. A displacement detecting means 19 detects time-axis-direction displacement between the photoacoustic image and the ultrasonic image, on the basis of both of them.
