The present invention is a content data playback device having a security chip, wherein the security chip has: storage means for storing firmware data containing a firmware program; and firmware update management means which, according to input of an acquisition request for a content key or a decoding request for content data for the security chip, assesses the necessity for executing update processing for firmware data on the basis of a comparison between deadline information which has been set for the firmware data and time information which has been received through a network, and if execution of the update processing is necessary, rejects the request. Therein, the firmware program causes the security chip to function as content key acquisition control means for acquiring the content key for decoding the content data through the network, and decoding means for decoding the content data using the content key. |
