The torque measuring device (30) has a coupling region (10) for coupling the housing (14) relative to the device, and a coupling region (11) for coupling a transverse shaft (7) relative to the housing, at the time of torque initiation. The coupling regions are coupled to each other via a web-like connecting portion. A measuring region with a measurement port (17) is provided in a connecting region, and a detecting unit (29) is provided for detecting the deformation generated during introduction of rotational torque into the connection region. An independent claim is included for clamping apparatus such as chain tensioner.
