<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass melting furnace for obtaining a bubble-free, sufficiently homogenous, high-quality molten glass that can be used for preparing an ultra-thin glass fiber serving as a constituent material of a high-density printed wiring board. <P>SOLUTION: The glass melting furnace 100 includes a body 10 composed of a platinum-containing material and melts a solid glass material M introduced into the body 10 by a Joule heat generated by applying electricity to the body 10.
