<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire accurate vehicle total weight estimation data even in shifting gears as well as not shifting gears in a vehicle total weight estimation device for estimating the total weight of a vehicle based on a plurality of pieces of the vehicle total weight estimation data. <P>SOLUTION: This vehicle total weight estimation device acquires no vehicle total weight estimation data in "a half-clutch state". Whenever determining that it is "not shifting gears", this device repetitively acquires the vehicle total weight estimation data W1 based on "a wheel driving force fd estimated from an engine torque and a shift position", "a travel resistance force fr estimated from a vehicle speed", and "a detected longitudinal acceleration α1". Whenever determining that it is "shifting gears", assuming that the vehicle driving force fd is zero, this device repetitively estimates the vehicle total weight estimation data W2 based on "the travel resistance force fr estimated from the vehicle speed" and "a detected longitudinal acceleration α2".
