<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for making a mold in which, since a hollow sphere formed without a gap is arranged in a space with molding sands kneaded with a binder and the making of the mold is performed, the hollow sphere having broad utility is filled as an alternative of sands to a mold with each shape to reduce the amount of sands to be used and the amount of additives used with the sands. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for making a mold, including making a mold (sand mold 12) by curing molding sands with a binder, a hollow sphere 1 formed without a gap is arranged between the molding sands kneaded with the binder to make the mold. The hollow sphere 1 is preferably formed by processing metal plates into a hemispherical form and bonding the hemispherical metal plates to each other by welding the entire circumferences thereof. With the specific gravity of 0.5 to 2.0 times that of the molding sand, the hollow sphere 1 has broad utility and is capable of reducing the amount of sands necessary for filling and the amount of additives used with the sands. The use of iron balls having the specific gravity equal to that of the used sands makes it possible to solve the problems of unbalance and overload at the time of handling an mold frame, and to impart an excellent durability due to an appropriate strength. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
