A power storage system (10) including a power storage device (30), a charge/discharge switch device (60) positioned so as to be connected to the power storage device (30), a power storage device breaker (50) provided between the power storage device (30) and the charge/discharge switch device (60), and a load-side breaker (26) provided between the charge/discharge switch device (60) and an external load, the power storage system (10) being equipped with a periodic monitoring device (110). A detected abnormality classification unit (112) in the periodic monitoring device (110) classifies detected abnormal states, on the basis of a preset classification standard, as failure states for which an early stage recovery can not be expected, or abnormal states for which recovery is possible. Upon classification as the former, a failure state processing unit (114) causes a power storage device breaker (50) to be shut off, whereas upon classification as the latter, an abnormal state processing unit (116) causes an alarm to be set off.
