PURPOSE: An application control device of a portable terminal and a method thereof are provided to conveniently update and delete an application of an initial screen. CONSTITUTION: A display unit(160) displays a set initial screen according to each category. A control unit(110) automatically matches initial screens of a portable terminal in an initial screen category setup mode. The control unit controls download of the application.
