<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a screen printing apparatus in which paper exhaustion can be correctly detected even when using, as a target, a paper roll of a type such that the adhesion strength in which the most rear end of the paper is coupled with a paper tube varies, and to provide a method for detecting the paper exhaustion of cleaning paper in the screen printing apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: Monitoring is performed about whether or not to fulfill any one of: such a case that a slit detection signal S, for detecting the rotational amount of the unused paper roll, is not detected repeatedly in the detection of the paper exhaustion; such a case that the duration time T1 of the slit detection signal S exceeds a first threshold Th1 to be set as an upper limit of the normal detection time; and such a case that one cycle time T2 of an operation of feeding paper exceeds a second threshold Th2 to be set as the operation delay limit time.
