<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic focus detection device capable of easily determining a repeated pattern, and highly accurately performing focusing even to an object whose contrast periodically changes and to provide a camera equipped with the same device. <P>SOLUTION: A correlation arithmetic operation is executed for each pair of image signal strings output from a vertical/horizontal sensor, and when a difference in the calculated vertical and horizontal image deviation amounts is equal to or more than a prescribed value, out of each pair of image signal strings output from the vertical/horizontal sensor, a pair of image signal strings of which the absolute value of the image deviation amounts is smaller is determined to be a repeated pattern. When it is determined that the repeated pattern is present, the correlation arithmetic operation is re-executed from a shift initial value set based on the image deviation amounts calculated from a pair of image signal strings determined to be not a repeated pattern for the pair of image signal strings determined to be the repeated pattern, and true image deviation amounts are calculated. Then, out of the calculated vertical and horizontal image deviation amounts, the image deviation amount of which the contrast value of the pair of image signal strings used for the calculation of the image deviation amounts is larger is selected as defocus amount. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
