Apparatus for sensing and recording human pulse beats comprises a photo-resistive cell and lamp clamped to the ear lobe to produce pulses (due to light transmission through the blood supply) which are applied, via a capacitor, to an amplifier which produces rectangular pulses to control a recording device. The signals may be transmitted by radio to send pulses of audio frequency, which may be tape recorded or used to control an electric typewriter. A stepping relay and timer may be used to ensure that only pulses in excess of a predetermined frequency are recorded.
