The invention is based on a motor vehicle drive system having a multi-phase charging device (10a; 10b) which is provided for charging an accumulator device (11a; 11b) by means of an external power network, in order to convert an alternating voltage of the external power network into a direct voltage, and having an operating mode switching device (12a; 12b) which is provided for optionally switching a charging operating mode or a driving operating mode. It is proposed that the operating mode switching device (12a; 12b) is provided for removing a drive machine (13a; 13b) at least partially from a charging circuit (20a; 20b) in the charging operating mode.
