PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify processing on a receiving side.

SOLUTION: A subtitle processing unit 123 converts subtitle data for 2D-images into subtitle data for 3D-images compatible with a transmission format of 3D-image data. On a receiving side, display data of a left-eye subtitle to be superimposed on left-eye image data of the 3D-image data and display data of a right-eye subtitle to be superimposed on right-eye image data of the 3D-image data can be easily generated based on the subtitle data for 3D-images, so that processing is simplified. Besides the 3D-image data and the subtitle data for 3D-images, display control information containing region information of sub-regions to be set as display regions of the left-eye and right-eye subtitles, target frame information, and parallax information is transmitted. Parallax to be given to the left-eye and right-eye subtitles can be dynamically altered in conjunction with changes in image content. Shift information is generated in sub-pixel accuracy.
