<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reagent and a support surface for immobilization of biomolecules such as nucleic acids and proteins. <P>SOLUTION: A method for covalent attachment of a target molecule such as a nucleic acid onto a substrate surface is provided, and a reagent composition for the method is provided. The reagent composition includes an epoxide group capable of covalently binding to the target molecule. Optionally, the reagent composition can contain a photoreactive group for use in attaching the reagent composition to the surface.
