<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus able to limit the use of an adding function part by an inherent physical mechanism and able to prevent fraudulent conversion such as rewriting of a program. <P>SOLUTION: A image forming apparatus 1 includes: the adding function part 40 for achieving a specific adding function; a reading part 41 for reading the inherent physical mechanism provided in a housing; and an adding function limiting means 42 for determining based on a result read by the reading part 41, whether the adding function part 40 is usable or not.
