<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve flame resistance of an electrolyte used in a lithium ion battery and also improve life property of a lithium ion battery. <P>SOLUTION: In a lithium ion battery including a positive electrode, a negative electrode and a nonaqueous electrolyte, specified amounts of ethylene carbonate and dimethyl carbonate are used for the nonaqueous electrolyte, and trimethyl phosphate is also added. Specifically, the nonaqueous electrolyte includes ethylene carbonate (EC) and dimethyl carbonate (DMC) at a rate of 60% by volume or more while a volume ratio of DMC relative to the sum of EC and DMC is 0.3 to 0.6, and contains 3 to 5% by weight of trimethyl phosphate (TMP) relative to the total weight of the nonaqueous electrolyte. The nonaqueous electrolyte has an effect enhancing self-extinguishing characteristics to improve safety of the lithium ion battery. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
