<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based ink set for ink-jet recording that includes pigment black ink and dye cyan ink and has high light resistance, high ozone resistance, and high jetting stabilities. <P>SOLUTION: This water-based ink set for ink-jet recording includes water-based black ink and water-based cyan ink. The colorant of the black ink is self-dispersible carbon black modified by at least one of a carboxy group and a sulfo group, and the colorant of the cyan ink is a dye represented by formula (1). In formula (1), each of rings A<SB POS="POST">1</SB>, A<SB POS="POST">2</SB>and A<SB POS="POST">3</SB>is at least one selected from the group consisting of a benzene ring, 2,3-pyridine ring and 3,2-pyridine ring. At least one of the rings A<SB POS="POST">1</SB>, A<SB POS="POST">2</SB>and A<SB POS="POST">3</SB>is 2,3-pyridine ring or 3,2-pyridine ring. The rings A<SB POS="POST">1</SB>, A<SB POS="POST">2</SB>and A<SB POS="POST">3</SB>may be different from each other. l satisfies 0≤l≤4, m satisfies 0≤m≤4, and n satisfies 0≤n≤4.
