PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication apparatus capable of achieving microfabrication of optical switching granularity and effective use of a signal light band.

SOLUTION: The communication apparatus includes: a wavelength switch for optical-switching multicarrier signal light with a fixed bandwidth; means for exchanging the multicarrier signal light from the wavelength switch; and means for optical-switching the received multicarrier signal light per unit subcarrier; and means for blocking the received multicarrier signal light per unit subcarrier.
