PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyzer excelling in removal efficiency of scale components in the water, and a heat pump type water heater equipped with the electrolyzer.

SOLUTION: Each electrode pair 49 includes a pair of electrode plates 53. A plurality of electrode plates 53 are arranged at spaces in the thickness direction of the electrode plates 53. A plurality of electrode pairs 49 have water passages F formed by the plurality of electrode plates 53 so that water flowing into a container 47 from an inlet passes between the pair of electrode plates 53 of each electrode pair 49 and reaches an outlet.
