The objective of the present invention is to provide a tape feeder and a method of mounting a tape onto the tape feeder, wherein positioning upon mounting a carrier tape can be made easier, and workability and working efficiency can be improved. The tape feeder is configured so that a guide section (30), which guides a carrier tape (15) to a pick-up position, and which is attachable/detachable to a body section (5a) of the tape feeder, is composed of: a lower section member (31) that supports the carrier tape (15) from the lower-face side thereof, and upon which is installed an attaching/detaching mechanism for attaching/detaching the guide section (30) to/from the body section (5a); and an upper section member (32) that holds down the carrier tape (15) from the upper side thereof, that can be opened/closed by making it pivot around an axle-supporting pin (33) formed at an end section thereof at the down-stream side of the lower section member (31), upon which is formed a tape insertion opening (32g) at an end section at the up-stream side thereof, and upon which is formed a checking opening-section for checking the position up to which the carrier tape (15) has been guided-in, and has reached. The tape feeder is also provided with a positioning mechanism, which is for positioning the carrier tape (15) in the tape feeding direction by intermeshing positioning pins (37) into feeding holes (15c).
