PURPOSE: A sound absorbing material for the ceiling and a method of manufacturing the same are provided to enhance impact resistance against external impact by reinforcing rigidity by forming a gypsum coating layer on the cut side. CONSTITUTION: A sound absorbing material for the ceiling comprises a sound absorbing layer(10), a facing layer(20), a gypsum coating layer(30), an environment-friendly water-based paint layer(40), and a gypsum frame layer(50). The sound absorbing layer is formed by mixing and compressing of glass wool and binder. The facing layer is formed from glass tissue and is formed on the upper and lower ends of the sound absorbing layer. The gypsum coating layer is formed on the side of the sound absorbing layer to reinforce rigidity. The environment-friendly water-based paint layer is formed from a material without volatile organic compound.
