<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption during programming operation in a nonvolatile memory array built in a virtually grounded array structure. <P>SOLUTION: When programming memory cells in a memory cell array built in the virtually grounded array structure, a controller 100 controls to program in parallel for two memory cells whose gate electrodes are connected to the same word line.
