Dialkyl phosphonates having anti-oxidant activity. Cpds. have the formula:- R'-CH2-NH-CO-(CH2)n- =(OR)2 (where R' is a 4-hydroxy-3,5-di tert. butyl phenyl radical R is an alkyl C1-18 radical and n is 1 or 2). Specified compounds include those where R is C4H9, C18H37 and n is 1. They may be used to stabilise organic materials e.g. polypropylene against oxidative deterioration either alone or together with a compound of formula:- R1-CH2-NH-CO-(CH2)m-(S)n-R2 (where R1 is a 2- or 4-hydroxyphenyl radical, R2 is H, alkyl, aryl or -(CH2)m-CO-NH-CH2-R1, m is 1 or 2, n is an integer from 1 to 7).
