[Also in Division F2] In a combination, comprising a sealing cap 102 and a coupling adaptor 101 profiled externally to receive and cooperate with the cap 102 the latter incorporates a fixed cam 12 having a surface adapted for engagement with a first exterior portion of the adaptor, a rotatable cam 16 adapted for engagement with a second exterior portion of the adaptor opposed to the first portion, and a compressible gasket 10 located sealingly to abut the rim 2 of the adaptor when the cap is retained therein, the rotatable cam incorporating a first radially acting bevelled camming surface 20 for engagement with the peripheral surface of the second exterior portion of the adaptor at a position above a groove 4 therein for moving the cap radially with respect to the adaptor to bring the fixed cam surface into engagement with the first exterior portion of the adaptor upon rotation of the cam, and a second angularly acting bevelled camming surface 21 for engagement with the groove of the adaptor for moving the cap in a direction having an axial component with respect to the adaptor so that the cap moves, first radial with respect to the adaptor and then in a direction having an axial component upon rotation of the cam. The cap is bored with cylindrical surfaces 6, 9 at radii R 2 on axes A-A, B-B respectively which surfaces merge at a flat surface 11, the surface 12 of the fixed cam being generated by a sphere of radius rotating at radius R about an axis C-C as the latter moves linearly from axis A-A to axis B-B, the generating sphere simultaneously moving upwards at a proportionate rate from the intersection 13 to the intersection 14. The surface 6 fits easily over the adaptor 101. The cap locked by moving a handle 18 in the cam 16 slightly beyond dead centre, the shaft of the cam 16 having an "O" ring seal. |
