An event ticket 102 comprises a facing layer 104 having a printable outer surface and a backing layer 112 optionally having a printable outer surface. A plurality of internal layers are provided which extend from the inner surface of the backing layer to the inner surface of the facing layer and which include an optical transmitting layer 108 and an optical barrier layer 110 partially covering the optical transmitting layer on one surface thereof. The optically transmitting layer may comprise a polymeric material and the optical barrier layer comprises a metal layer/coating (for example an opaque aluminum coating) which partially covers the optically transmitting layer. The areas of the optical transmitting layer which are covered by the optical barrier layer are visible in transmitted light and invisible in reflected light.
