1,212,669. Pantographs; engraving apparatus. L. R. HATEM. 10 July, 1969 [10 March, 1969], No. 34730/69. Headings B6J and B6P. [Also in Division F2] A device for the inverted reproduction of a model comprises an assembly of four arms pivoted to each other at their ends (e.g. the parallelogram PQRS, Fig. 1), two opposed points O<SP>1</SP> and O<SP>2</SP> of the assembly being pivoted to respective carriages C<SP>1</SP> and C<SP>2</SP> which are free to move along a guide-rail x-y. A tracer and a marking instrument (e.g. writing instrument or engraving tool) are mounted at or in the vicinity of the other opposed points T and D of the assembly. The arms of the assembly need not be of equal length (Figs. 2 and 3), or pivoted to the adjacent arms at their ends (Figs. 4 and 5). The opposed points O<SP>1</SP> and O<SP>2</SP> may be pivoted off centre with respect to the guide-rail x-y (Fig. 5). Engraving apparatus (Fig. 6).-A rail (1) mounted above a table (2) carries two carriages (4) which can move along the guide-rail by sliding or by means of rollers. The carriages each have a pivot mounting (5) for a deformable parallelogram (6, 7, 8, 9). A tracing tool (10) is moved manually to follow the letters of the pattern (3). A connector (11) on the arm (9) is carried by a pantograph (12) pivoted at (13) on a support (14). One arm (15) of the pantograph (12) carries a rotatable engraving tool (16), driven by means of belts (17, 18) from an electric motor. The tool (16) reproduces the lettering of the pattern (3) on the workpiece (19) with the letters inverted, the size being in accordance with the characteristics of the pantograph. |
