Soln. of amino acid added to suspension of chloramphenicol succinate and salt obtained by evapn. or precipitation with an organic liquid in which the salt is insol. 5.3 g l-arginine added to 13.1 g chloramphenicol suspended in 13 ml H2O, the mixture stirred 5 mins. and 500 ml dioxane added gave crystals of l-arginine chloramphenicol succinate, m 145 deg.C (alpha)28D =+8.6(+-)0.5 (c=10.0 H2O) in 14.7 g yield.
